This is the small mandoline: slice, julienne and grate, straight into a three-cup container that clips on underneath. A guard comes with it, so your fingers stay well away from the blade.

It is light, it fits a drawer, and it washes up in one piece. Essential is the range for the kitchen where counter space is the scarce thing.

Questions

What can it cut?

Fruit and vegetables that fit the blade face — cucumber, carrot, zucchini, potato and apple — plus firm cheese on the grater insert. The 2-IN-1 slices and juliennes; the 4-IN-1 adds two further cuts.

Is a hand guard included?

Yes. A guard is supplied and should be used for every cut. A mandoline blade is fixed and exposed while you work, which is what makes the cut so even.

How big is the container?

Three cups, and it clips on underneath so the slices land in it rather than on the counter. It doubles as the storage box for the inserts.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

Yes, every part. Take the insert out of the body first so water reaches both sides of the cutting edge, and dry it before putting it away.
